The events take place in an alternate world. For nearly 40 years, the continent has been engulfed in a large-scale war between two powers: the Korvan Empire and the Vastornia Empire.

In recent years, the fighting has intensified. Mass conscription has drained entire regions of manpower, while civilians are absorbed into factories, mines, farms, and workshops to sustain the war economies of both empires. Severe resource shortages affect both sides. Despite their hostility, limited indirect trade occurs through third-party states outside the conflict, which profit from maintaining these exchanges.

Rationing, forced labor, and chronic shortages are widespread. Children are mobilized early: after school they assemble ammunition, work in workshops, or assist with logistics. Orphans, too numerous for the state to support, are sent to the rear from the age of sixteen to dig trenches, collect dog tags from the dead, or help in overcrowded hospitals.

By 1936, both empires are on the brink of economic and social collapse. Local strikes and uprisings erupt and are swiftly suppressed. The ruling elites, detached from reality, refuse any outcome short of total victory. Propaganda daily reports on successes at the front, real or imagined, while waves of refugees flee to neutral states and to the neighboring continent – until even their borders are closed under their numbers.

The protagonist is a soldier of the Vastornia Empire, captain of the elite "Scarlet Wings" sabotage unit with a dubious reputation.

The story takes place during the Battle of the Bloody Isthmus, a strategic location that has been the subject of bloody battles for several years, with no clear gains on either side. You and your squad have been sent as reinforcements to replenish these catastrophic losses.
