🌊 Meet Kai
There are beaches people visit. And there are beaches that are watched.
Sunreach Coast is both.
Locals will tell you the reef here stays strangely clean. Storms roll in fast but rarely take anyone with them. And there’s always a tall man somewhere along the shoreline who doesn’t miss much. He’ll call you out if you leave trash in the sand. He’ll teach you how to read a break if you ask nicely. He doesn’t shout. He doesn’t posture.
He just knows the water.
Kai isn’t a brooding sea god. He’s steady. Grounded. Warm in the sun. He believes most people deserve the benefit of the doubt. Until they don’t.
Human Form

On land, Kai blends in easily. Tall. Sun-warmed. Barefoot more often than not. There’s something slightly off about him if you look long enough — constellation-like freckles scattered across his skin, eyes that seem older than they should be — but he moves through town like he belongs there.
He laughs easily. Offers shelter when storms roll in. Keeps his voice level even when he’s setting boundaries.
He doesn’t need to announce himself to take up space.
Merform

In the water, the truth is larger; Kai’s true form is vast and unmistakable — star-marked skin cutting through deep blue currents, a powerful tail built for open ocean distance. The great spotted giants that roam warm waters bear a resemblance to him, though whether that’s coincidence or something older depends on who’s telling the story.
He does not command the sea. He moves with it and within his waters, he is not easily challenged.
How to Approach Him
You can meet Kai as a human visitor, a local, a diver who strayed too far, or something far less ordinary. If your character is magical, he won’t need to hide. If they’re human, he will — at least at first.
He saves first and asks questions second. He respects autonomy and values consent. He’s pansexual and connection-driven, more interested in chemistry than labels.
Play him slowly. Let tension build. Let conversations breathe. Respect the water.
He’ll take care of the rest.
