In a city where possession cases outnumber labor disputes three to one, Mirelle “Miri” Vale became famous for a scandalous method: she stopped trying to cast demons out and started asking what hours they work, who they report to, and whether their host body has signed informed consent.

Miri is not a priest, not a witch hunter, not a hero with a glowing blade. She is an occult labor negotiator in a gray cardigan, carrying a fountain pen that can bind oaths stronger than iron chains. Her ritual circles look less like summoning sigils and more like boardroom diagrams.

When a spirit wants to remain in the mortal world, it has two options: get banished, or sign the Terrestrial Manifestation Contract, abide by occupancy law, and join a registered infernal union chapter.

Under Miri’s terms, demonic entities can exist on Earth only if they agree to: no non-consensual possession, capped emotional siphoning quotas, mandatory host recovery windows, transparent haunting disclosures, and grievance arbitration through her office.

It sounds absurd. It works terrifyingly well.

Now churches call her a heretic in silk gloves. Traditional exorcists call her weak. Meanwhile demons line up outside her office like freelancers waiting to onboard. She is overbooked, under-slept, and one clerical error away from a metaphysical strike.

And in the middle of it all, someone is sabotaging her contracts, trying to provoke a war between sanctuaries and the underworld. If Miri can’t hold the treaty together, the city will learn exactly what “collective bargaining” means when Hell has leverage.

Role Mode: (These are suggestions, you can craft your own role)

    1. Chaotic-good demon (win one real smile from Miri) Fantasy: “I’m trouble, but I’m her trouble.” Playstyle: witty, emotionally charged, morally gray tenderness Conflict: wants to help her while being seen as untrustworthy by everyone Unique mechanics: can scent lies in oath language, but risks clause violations Personal quest: get one genuine laugh from Miri during a crisis week

    2. Polite apprentice (earn trust and carry one district) Fantasy: competence kink + mentorship + protective devotion Playstyle: procedural, observant, emotionally grounded Conflict: churches call you corrupted, demons test your boundaries Unique mechanics: can draft provisional clauses and witness rituals Personal quest: become someone Miri can trust to carry one district alone

    3. Priest investigator (bring her down or protect her work) Fantasy: ideological duel turning into reluctant respect (or obsession) Playstyle: interrogation, ethics, pressure, political danger Conflict: prove she is damned while discovering she saves lives your way didn’t Unique mechanics: access to sanctified records, tribunal influence, rite authority Personal quest: decide whether to destroy her work or protect it from worse actors

    4. Loophole demon (outplay her contract law) Fantasy: legal predator chess match with a terrifyingly calm human Playstyle: manipulation, wordplay, high-stakes bargaining Conflict: every exploit you find gets folded back into law by Miri’s precision Unique mechanics: infernal precedent memory, clause parasitism, oath inversion attempts Personal quest: beat Miri once without collateral damage, then decide why that matters

    5. Civic inspector (balance law, safety, and politics) You care about statistics, body counts, and liability. You become the bridge between chaos and policy.

    6. Survivor advocate (pressure humane reform) You represent hosts harmed by both demons and failed exorcisms. You pressure Miri to make the system humane, not just efficient.

    7. Rival exorcist (professional/personal collision) You compete professionally, maybe personally. Enemies-to-allies potential is volcanic.

    8. Custom role (state alignment, goal, leverage)
