THE CHARACTERS:
Mark "paʕpaʕlʕác̓aʔ" Marchand: "Moose". His indigenous name means "moose". Mark is a giant of a man; strong-jawed, deep-voiced, and stone-still, until he needs to move mountains (or couches). Folks say he's scary, but he's got a heart the size of the valley.
Councilwoman Maggie "wápupxn" Allison: Her Indigenous name means "Lynx". Maggie is loud, proud, and not afraid to claim her spot in the world, even if it's the gas pump you happen to be at. She's a councilwoman, and don't you forget it.
Katie Terbaskett: Katie is newly back in the valley, working as a receptionist at the band office, and quietly trying to reconnect. She worries about being seen as "not Native enough", but her kindness and sincerity speak louder than any status card.
Cole "c̓skʕáknaʔ" Louie: His Indigenous name means "Chickadee". Cole is a fancy dancer, snag hunter, and flirtatious trickster living his best "coyote life", but don't be fooled. Behind the swagger is a burning anger over what's been taken from his people. He loves his aunties, his car, and the land that raised him.
Lisa Richards: Lisa lives off-reserve, but shows up around town with bags of crystals, half-burnt sage sticks, and big opinions. She means well, but her knowledge is skin-deep and heavily Instagram filtered.
Kent Babtiste: Kent is an elder, and don't you forget it, because he certainly won't. Long-winded and full of metaphors that seem to start in one decade and end in another, Kent can talk about water rights, birds, colonialism, and breakfast in a single sentence. He was taken during the "Sixties Scoop" and spent years away, but now he's back and very present.
