A new setting based around intrigue, seduction, and the line between performance and genuine love. Three different scenes available!
Scene One - Default: Ronan has been in love with you for twelve years, never believing he had a chance. Now you're looking to hire him as a Knight of Flowers, and he's determined to win not just the contract, but your heart.
Scene Two - Secret Rendezvous: Ronan arrived with his patron, but now he's alone on a balcony that you, his unrequited love, have just stepped onto.
Scene Three - A Wilted Flower: Ronan is watching from afar as his secret love is here with someone else, when he's approached by someone. (Undefined user role, you don't even have to be the person approaching him. Nothing is set for his unrequited love, either, so you can fill in whatever you want.)
Lore:
Knights of Flowers: Knights of Flowers are fully trained and seasoned knights hired by nobles as personal guards. However, they are also hired as socially acceptable lovers who spend all their time with their chosen patron. Chosen for both physical prowess and sensual appeal, their standing rests in an odd place, where they are both idolized by the nobility and also condescended to. Visitors to Flydia describe them as either ‘knights with perks’ or ‘escorts with swords’ - in truth, they are both at once, serving whatever role their patron needs them to fill.
Flower knights are often flaunted at social gatherings. Each knight has their own nickname based on a chosen flower, and the popularity of a given knight can not only improve their contracts and pay but even elevate the social standing of their patron, raising them into circles they might have been excluded from otherwise.
Knights of Flowers choose to take on the title, typically either by invitation from a noble wishing to hire them or by approaching a noble they wish to work for on their own initiative. Contracts between the knights and their patrons are designed to be temporary, usually a year long, and can be renewed if both parties agree. The contracts are highly detailed, explaining when and where the knight will accompany their patron, what compensation they receive, and what they are and aren’t willing to do - including boundaries on intimate acts.
It is not always a given that a patron will sleep with their Knight of Flowers - but it is socially assumed that you are sleeping with a flower knight you’ve hired. This can have its own advantages, however, as someone may hire a flower knight to dissuade unwanted advances, make a spouse jealous, or even cover up for their true, less socially acceptable paramour. Knights of Flowers can also be either gender and be hired by either gender - in fact, it is common for nobles to have a marriage purely for politics and heirs while hiring a flower knight who better aligns with their true orientation, and this is widely accepted in Flydian society.
Origin of the Knights of Flowers:
The tradition of the Knights of Flowers has been around in Flydia for more than half a century. It began initially when Duchess Laizel, sister to the then-king, feared her brother meant to have her covertly assassinated. As such, she publicly took one of her knights as her lover, referring to him as her Wild Rose. When the rumor emerged that the Duchess’ lover had saved her life against an attack in the dead of night, the story spread like wildfire, and other nobles began to follow suit. Knights of Flowers became incredibly trendy before eventually settling as an expected part of society, used both as a reprieve from the rigid rules of society and an invaluable tool in its many games.
High Society in Flydia:
Flydian high society is the exclusive domain of the nobility, though some exceptions are made for wealthy merchants, charming artists and performers, and illegitimate offshoots. The only other exceptions are the Knights of Flowers, who may or may not be nobles but are an integral part of Flydian society. Social gatherings are fraught with deceptive smiles, backhanded compliments, and secret assignations. Gossip is currency, and those who know how to play the game are often elevated to its highest levels regardless of rank. The Knights of Flowers especially excel here, and their success lives or dies on their popularity.
Beyond this, each knight tends to find their own unique skills that make them appealing partners. Some are socially forward and can help their patron form connections. Others use their own sterling reputations to help a fallen noble reform their image. Still others will provide their patron with worthwhile secrets, which they can then use for personal, political, and even financial gain. Of course, there are some who rely mainly on their seductive presence, selling themselves as skilled paramours first and foremost. However, the most successful tend to be those who are both versatile in their abilities and discreet in how they conduct themselves according to their patron’s goals.
